RFTS Logo.jpg

My name is Basilia Oferbia, I am a resilient, determined and creative 11th grader. I reside in the Big Apple but, I am Nigerian and Ghanaian at heart. I advocate for more diverse representation in STEM.

In my free time, if I’m not running social justice meetings, you can catch me playing volleyball or catching up on the latest soap operas. My guilty pleasure is writing fan fiction, and my favorite food is a Nigerian dish called Fufu. With every bite, I feel like I’m instantly transported back to my home land. My name, Basilia means Regal or Queenly and I love to carry myself in a positive manner. I work great in group settings and can be very empathic. Also, I take criticism very well.

I am a secretary at RFTS and I’m excited to get to know everyone and make my impact on this amazing organization. I hope to gain leadership skills and how to be more organized. I like to play volleyball at the community center and take long walks in Brooklyn Botanic Gardens after getting some coffee. It is very therapeutic and helps me unwind. In the near future, I want to become a computer engineer and close the race gap in STEM fields as well as advocate for the end of many social issues.

3 Fun Facts:
1. I love to play volleyball.
2. I have soo many cousins (50).
3. I love watching action movies.
