What is Reach For The Stars?

Reach For The Stars is a student-led, international non-profit working to bridge the possible gap in students’ learning during these unprecedented circumstances. We offer a wide variety of programs and opportunities for children of all ages. During this time, we recognize the difficulty with finding cheap classes to help improve your child’s education. That’s why Reach For The Stars offers FREE tutoring for supplemental review, additional practice, or scholastic advancement for academic success.

What is the cost of the programs?

It is completely FREE. We know some tutoring programs can be very costly, which is why we want to provide free services for students so that everyone has equal access to a quality education. Our ultimate goal is to help improve the education of all students, and all our volunteers are awarded service hours for their work.

What ages do you offer programs to?

We offer programs for students grades kindergarten to 12th. High schoolers and college students can sign up to be tutors, volunteers, bloggers, etc. You can go to the “Register Your Child” tab to learn more about our services or the “Join Our Team” tab to learn more about our volunteering opportunities.

How does Reach For The Stars tutoring work?

After signing up for a program, we will assign you to a tutor, who will contact you regarding more details about the session. The session length and frequency will be tailored to your availability, the tutor’s availability, and your child’s needs. The tutors will then meet with you to discuss future plans. All of our tutors are highly qualified and are trained frequently by our Human Resources Department Team. Our tutors use Google Classroom to help organize all the materials and assign classwork and homework. Parents can be added to the Google Classroom to check their student’s progress. We also request that our tutors send monthly progress reports regarding goals, behavior, grades, and, of course, progress.

How are your tutors qualified?

Tutors are high school and college students with a minimum of a 3.6 GPA unweighted. Additionally, they must have A in the subjects they are tutoring. After completing a written application, tutors are interviewed and assessed by our executive members. Furthermore, we regularly train tutors and provide them with education resources.

What is the time requirement for volunteers?

General volunteers have very flexible hours. You log your own hours in and spend as much time as you want on a project. Tutors can tutor as much as they can with as many students as they (as long as they can manage it). A tutoring session is scheduled to the tutee’s and tutor’s availability. We ask that tutors host at least one tutoring session a week for about an hour, as well as putting in additional time to plan for each lesson. Executive positions require more time commitment. You will be assigned team tasks and executive tasks, as well as attend weekly team meetings.

How do service hours work for volunteers?

This is an unpaid opportunity for students to gain experience during this pandemic. You can get service hours for making lesson plans, reaching out to schools, researching, writing articles, setting up tutoring sessions, etc. You get service hours for the time that you put into Reach For The Stars. We use a system called Clockify, in which our volunteers personally log in their hours, and it gets checked off and reported at the end of the month.
