Emerging Technologies

3 ways emerging technologies are benefiting schools

Writer: Riley Wang

Technology is rapidly advancing in several sectors like automobiles, phones and even social media. However, within the past few years, technology has made massive advancements in education. Throughout this article, you will learn about how many education systems are benefiting from this new revelation of technology.

More accessible learning environments

Technology has made the learning environments for students extremely accessible. They are not only limited to learning inside the classroom at school anymore. Many school boards and districts have been allowing each student to receive their own chromebook for the school year, which allows more accessible ways to learn. For example, students can:

  • Learn from home

  • Access documents online and offline

  • Obtain files, documents and lessons (google classroom)

Even through a pandemic, students were able to learn from home. If one is sick, or can not attend to be in-class, many lessons and homework can be opened through teaching platforms like Google Classroom.

More efficiency

Having more advanced computers, systems, and learning platforms, allows more efficient learning and teaching for both students and teachers. Not only does it save time, but it also ensures that more quality work is getting done in a shorter amount of time. Below are the benefits that teachers and students are experiencing:

Teachers:

  • Easier and faster to insert grades and averages

  • More organized classroom

  • Lessons and homework solutions can be posted

  • Automatically graded quizzes

Students:

  • Personal work is all in one device

  • Quicker answers (google vs dictionary)

  • Easy contact with teachers and supervisors

Students and teachers are able to obtain better results in their work when they do not need to spend as much time grading or writing each assignment by pen and paper. It has become easier than ever to contact peers and teachers through our new learning managements (google classroom, student emails, google drive, sharing documents).

Prepares younger generation for the future

The future is only set to become even more technology advanced than ever. By incorporating technology into the education system, it prepares students for their:

  • Future occupation

  • Everyday-life (driving, computers checkouts at grocery stores, ordering through kiosk, phones, etc)

  • New technological advancements

It is guaranteed that our future will contain more technologies, and allowing the younger generations to interact with new advancements from an early age makes the future society more technologically capable.

“To understand their world we must be willing to immerse ourselves in that world. We must embrace the new digital reality. If we can’t relate, if we don’t get it, we won’t be able to make schools relevant to the current and future needs of the digital generation.” – Ian Jukes
